The locality of Los Barrios has more than 20.000 inhabitants and is being bordered by San Roque to the east, La Linea to the southeast, Algeciras to the east and Castellar de la Frontera to the north.

Because of the excellent position of Los Barrios, many civilisations passed by these lands. From the Phoenicians, to the Romans, the Arabs and Christians. All of them left some of their heritage in this area of 20.000 people divided between Los Barrios Village in the interior and Palmones on the coastline, where the industrial estate is located.

Of its industry, worth mentioning is Acerinox and Endesa. A big Cine Cité UGC is also located there. The shopping centre Factory Guadacorte is only one of many commercial establishments in Palmones.
The National Park of Marismas de Palmones is unfortunately influenced by the surrounding industrial activities.
