Castellar de la Frontera is a small village of the Campo de Gibraltar, situated in the heart of the National Park los Alcornocales. This village is divided in two parts, as part of its 3000 inhabitants live in the village and the other part with the fortress.

Castellar has the water reservoir Guadarranque, which supply the majority of the Campo of Gibraltar population with water. This is an area of beautiful natural surroundings. A little further on the very pretty village Jimena de la Frontera is nestled up a hill where on top the castle and in the back, the magnificient mountain area can be admired. San Roque is situated south from Castellar and well worth a visit. Also this small town has a fortess, dating back to moslem times and which was build in the 12th century. Also to be seen is the barroc Convent of La Almoraima of the 17th Century and the same dated Church Divino Salvador. The town was declared Monument of historic Arts in 1963 and is located within the so called Ruta del Toro.
Tourism and agriculture are the principal sources of income.
