The region of the Campo de Gibraltar is a peculiar region of the province of Cadiz. It composes of seven towns, which are Algeciras, Castellar de la Frontera, Tarifa, La Línea de la Concepción, Los Barrios and San Roque. Each town of this region has it very own particularities. For exemple, Los barrios, Algeciras, San Roque and La Línea form the metropolitan area of the Campo de Gibraltar region. Industry is the main aspect of these towns: San Roque and Los Barrios have Petrochemical refineries, which unfortunately make of this area a rather sad place, with smoking chimneys, contaminating all surroundings whether it be the beach of Guadarranque, Puente Mayorga or La Línea de la Concepción, la Barriada de Campamento or the urban nucleus of San Roque.
Also in los Barrios the industry is having the say, there however, also the commercial centres attract many people. Near la Linea, we have to point out Gibraltar a sure destination for most of the visitors to this area and last but not least, Algeciras, where the first port build in Spain is located.
Leaving the metropolitan part of the region, we enter the natural side, which is completely different and you will not regret to have a visit to Places like Castellar and Jimena de la Frontera, crossing through the most magnificent natural parks. On famous national park is the Parque Natural de los Alcornocales and just between this one and the Parque Natural del Estrecho you will find the town of Tarifa. Situated the furthest south on the European continent with two seas meeting on its shores: the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean. |
